When a couple separates they can sometimes find it difficult to agree about the arrangements for their children. And in what can be a very emotional situation children can sometimes be used as an extension of the disagreement between their parents.

Our family lawyers are experienced in working to resolve these situations in an amicable and constructive way and will help parents to establish structures to co-parent effectively from different homes. Their overriding objective is to help the parents to reach a workable agreement that takes into consideration the best interests of the children.

In some cases if the parents cannot reach an agreement it may be necessary to go to court so that a judge determine the arrangements and make a Court Order. Our lawyers combine experience and compassion and will guide you through the process of obtaining a court order.

The most common court orders include the following:

  1. Child Arrangement Order stipulating the child’s living arrangements and how much time they will spend with each parent
  2. Specific Issue Order in relation to matters such as schooling or religious education
  3. Prohibited Steps Order can stop one parent from making decisions about the child’s upbringing without consultation with the other parent
